Seven or eight days covers Cairo, Luxor and Aswan with a 3- or 4-night Nile cruise. Five days works for a fast highlights trip by air; add two or three days for Abu Simbel, Alexandria or the Red Sea.
October to April is the comfortable season. For Christmas and New Year, book two to three months ahead because Nile cruise cabins sell out first.
