Abu Simbel
The Great Temple and the Small Temple of Hathor and Nefertari
Cairo, a day trip to Abu Simbel from Aswan, 3 nights on a top-category Nile ship and two unhurried days in Luxor. Private guide and car.
From, per person$1,0156 or more travellers · 3-star hotels

Abu Simbel is the reason for this program. It sits about 300 km south-west of Aswan, so the usual way to see it is a very early start and a long day. Here it gets its own day, with a short flight in place of the road, and you board the ship afterwards rather than before.
The rest of the week is slow on purpose. Cairo takes three nights, the ship sails Aswan to Luxor over 3 nights, and Luxor ends the trip with a hotel night and no ship checkout at 8:00 hanging over the second day.
It suits couples and small groups who care more about one great site than a long list. It does not suit anyone who dislikes planes: you take three flights. The ship sails on fixed weekly days, so we fit the dates to the ship.

Arrival. You are met inside the terminal and driven to the hotel in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Your Egyptologist guide helps you check in, and bottled water is included in the vehicle.
Evening. Nothing is planned for the evening, and no meals are included. Your guide leaves a written plan for the next two days at the front desk: Saqqara and Giza on Day 2, the museum and the Citadel on Day 3, then the flight to Aswan on Day 4.
Morning. After breakfast at the hotel, your Egyptologist guide and the private vehicle take you to Saqqara, where Imhotep designed the Step Pyramid for King Djoser. Entrance fees are included. You walk through the Old Kingdom tomb of Mereruka, a Sixth Dynasty official, and your guide reads the wall scenes with you.
Afternoon. Lunch is not included, and your guide helps you choose a place. You then go to Giza for the late afternoon. You see the three pyramids and the Great Sphinx with the plateau emptying of day visitors, and your guide has time to explain what you are looking at without a crowd. The vehicle takes you back to the hotel afterwards.
Morning. The Grand Egyptian Museum has the morning. Breakfast at the hotel, then your guide and the private vehicle take you there, with the entrance fee included. Your guide starts at the Grand Staircase and then takes you through the Tutankhamun galleries, which hold more than 5,300 objects.
Afternoon. Lunch is not included, so your guide helps you pick a place. In the afternoon you go up to the Citadel in Historic Cairo and look across the city from its walls. Your guide explains how the Citadel and the old city fit together. The private vehicle brings you back to the hotel for the evening. Tomorrow you fly, so your guide tells you the check-out time tonight.
Morning. After breakfast you check out, and the vehicle takes you and your luggage to Cairo airport for the flight to Aswan. Your guide is with you in Aswan, and the vehicle takes you to the hotel to check in.
Afternoon. Lunch is not included, and your guide helps you choose a place. Your guide then takes you to the temple of Isis at Philae, with the entrance fee included. It was dismantled into about 40,000 units and rebuilt on Agilkia Island, and your guide explains how.
Evening. You sleep in a hotel in Aswan tonight, which keeps the ship's check-in out of tomorrow's early start. Dinner is not included.
Morning. After breakfast the private vehicle takes you to Aswan airport for the short flight to Abu Simbel. The flight days and times change with the season, so we confirm them when we book. Four colossi about 20 m tall guard the Great Temple of Ramesses II. The Small Temple stands a little to the north and honours Hathor and Queen Nefertari. Your guide explains how the temples were cut into 1,036 blocks and rebuilt about 65 m higher between 1964 and 1968.
Afternoon. You are back in Aswan by early afternoon. Lunch is not included today. The vehicle takes you and your luggage from the hotel to your Deluxe or Ultra Deluxe ship, and you board and settle into your cabin. Ship check-in opens at 12:00.
Evening. Dinner is on board. This is the first of three nights on the ship, which sails on fixed weekly days.
Morning. Breakfast on board. The ship moves north from Aswan in the morning, and you stop at Kom Ombo. The temple is shared between Sobek and Haroeris, so everything inside it comes in pairs, and your guide walks you through both halves. Entrance fees are included.
Afternoon. Lunch is on board. The afternoon is free on the sun deck while the ship carries on along the river, and your cabin is yours to use.
Evening. Dinner is on board.
Morning. Breakfast on board. Edfu's Temple of Horus is the largest temple dedicated to Horus, and it was built between 237 and 57 BC. Your guide takes you through the temple and reads the inscribed walls with you, pointing out how the building leads from the entrance toward the sanctuary. Entrance fees are included.
Afternoon. Lunch is on board. After the visit the ship sails to Luxor, with time on the sun deck on the way.
Evening. The ship arrives in Luxor in the evening, and dinner is on board. Cabins are vacated at 8:00 tomorrow, so pack tonight.
Morning. You leave the ship after breakfast, and your luggage goes with you in the private vehicle. You cross to the West Bank. The Valley of the Kings lies opposite Luxor, and Howard Carter found Tutankhamun's tomb there on 4 November 1922. Entrance fees are included, but the extra-ticket tombs (Tutankhamun, Seti I and Ramses VI) are not. Your guide chooses tombs with you.
Afternoon. You then drive to Deir el-Bahari for Hatshepsut's terraced temple. Lunch is not included, and your guide helps you choose a place. Your hotel in Luxor is ready by early afternoon, so you check in and have the rest of the day free. Dinner is not included.
Morning. After breakfast at the hotel you check out, and your luggage goes into the private vehicle. Karnak closes the program, with the entrance fee included. The Precinct of Amun-Re is the part open to the public, and the Great Hypostyle Hall has 134 columns.
Departure. A private car takes you to Luxor airport for your onward flight. The timing of the morning follows your flight, and your guide confirms the plan the day before.

FAQ
Still unsure? Message us on WhatsApp and a real person from our team will answer.
Yes. The road is about 300 km, takes and tourists travel in a police-escorted convoy. The flight saves most of that day.
Twice a year the rising sun lights the inner sanctuary, on 22 February and 22 October, according to Ahram Online's report of the October 2026 event. Crowds are large on those mornings. We do not build the program around those dates unless you ask.
Abu Simbel means an early start. A hotel night keeps the ship's check-in, which opens at 12:00, out of the morning plan.
We use the road convoy instead and board the ship in the late afternoon.
