Giza plateau
The Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, early in the day
The Giza pyramids in the morning, then the Grand Egyptian Museum and its Tutankhamun galleries, only about 2 km away, with a private Egyptologist.

The Grand Egyptian Museum opened officially on 1 November 2025, and it sits about 2 km from the Giza pyramids. That makes it easy to see the monuments and the objects from the same period on one day, without a long transfer in between. It suits travellers who want the museum properly, not in a rush before a flight.
We put the pyramids first and the museum second. The plateau is cooler and quieter early, and the museum can fill your afternoon indoors, in air conditioning. The two Tutankhamun galleries are the main reason many guests come, but the museum has far more, and your guide will pick a route that fits your interests so you are not overloaded.
It is a long day with a lot of standing and walking on hard floors. It is not the right pick if you want Saqqara or the older pyramids as well, or if you are short of energy after a night flight.
The Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, early in the day
The 11 m, 83-tonne statue of Ramses II greets you in the atrium
About 50 m over six storeys, with more than 60 objects on its landings
Two halls with 5,398 objects, including the gold mask and three coffins
Two boats about 4,600 years old, now shown at the museum
We plan around your booked museum slot so you do not queue at the door
We leave early to reach the plateau while the light is soft. You see the Great Pyramid up close, the other two big pyramids and the Sphinx, which is 73 m long. Your guide keeps this stop to the morning, so the museum slot is never rushed.
The museum is about 2 km from the pyramid complex, so the car covers the distance quickly. Your guide uses the time to explain how the museum's collection ties back to what you just saw on the plateau.
The 11 m statue of Ramses II stands in the Grand Hall, where it was moved in 2018. Beyond it the Grand Staircase rises about 50 m with objects set along each landing, and from the upper levels you look out towards the pyramids.
Two of the museum's 12 halls hold the Tutankhamun collection of 5,398 objects. Your guide explains how the tomb was packed, why the gold mask is so well known, and why some rooms ask visitors to put cameras away.
The Khufu ships museum shows the two solar boats that were found beside the Great Pyramid, moved to the museum in 2021. After that, the car takes you back to your hotel, or to dinner if you prefer.

The galleries are open from 9:00 to 18:00 on most days, and to 21:00 on Saturday and Wednesday. Last entry is one hour before closing, and entry is by timed slot, so we choose your slot first and plan the plateau around it.
Bags larger than 40 x 40 cm go to the cloakroom. Personal photos are allowed, but not flash, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks or drones, and photography is not allowed in marked areas of the Tutankhamun galleries.
Museum tickets are for one date and time, with one entry and no re-entry, and are non-refundable. Give us your travel date as early as you can, so we can book your slot. The museum's own guided-tour ticket is a shared group tour, not a private one. Its published rules cover tour guides who accompany a group and say they pay the guided-tour difference at the ticket office, and we arrange the tickets and the guide's entry with the museum when we book.
Allow for up to four hours inside the museum, and wear comfortable shoes. The floors are hard and the distances are long.
Send every cancellation by email so that we can confirm it in writing. The charge is a percentage of the tour price, and anything you paid above it is refunded.
