4x4 drive
From the coast into the Red Sea Mountains
Three days based in Hurghada: a 4x4 into the Eastern Desert and the Red Sea Mountains, one night in a desert camp, and a morning by the sea.
From, per person$3556 or more travellers · 3-star hotels

Hurghada sits on the Red Sea coast, and the Red Sea Mountains rise behind it. They run parallel to the coast, roughly 80 to 137 km inland, with peaks around 1,500 m and wide wadis between them. This trip leaves the resort strip and goes into that country by 4x4.
You sleep one night in a hotel in Hurghada, one in a desert camp, and finish with a short morning back in town. The desert section is the point, so we keep the sea to a minimum.
It suits travellers staying on the Red Sea who want a night in the desert without a long transfer from Cairo. It does not suit anyone who expects diving or snorkelling to be part of the plan: those are optional extras and not included.

Pick-up. We meet you at Hurghada airport, or at your hotel if you are already in the city, and the airport meet and assist and the transfer to the hotel are included. Hurghada is 455 km from Cairo by road. Tell us your arrival time and we match the pick-up to it.
Afternoon. Your local desert guide comes by in the late afternoon to go through the plan, check the gear and answer questions about the camp night. The sea averages about 24 degrees C over the year, so a short swim before dinner is possible if you land early.
Evening. Dinner is included, and you sleep in your hotel in Hurghada.
Morning. The private 4x4 leaves Hurghada after breakfast and heads west into the desert with your driver and guide. The Red Sea Mountains run parallel to the coast, roughly 80 to 137 km inland, with peaks around 1,500 m. The rock is mainly igneous in the south and limestone in the north. Your guide stops at wadis, points out dry riverbeds and tells you where winter rain runs.
Afternoon. Midday brings lunch, which is included. In the late afternoon the group reaches the camp, with time to walk before the sunset. Bottled water is with you throughout.
Evening. Dinner is cooked on the fire and is included with the night in camp. The camp site, permits and timings are arranged by us and confirmed when you book.
Morning. Get up early. Hurghada's winter evenings fall from about 20 degrees C to 10, and the camp is colder than the town. Breakfast is at camp and comes with the camp night. After it you walk with your guide, break camp and drive back to the coast in the 4x4. Lunch is not part of this day, so plan it in town.
Return. The drop-off is at your Hurghada hotel or the airport. Do not book a flight before noon.
