Cairo in three nights
Giza, Saqqara and the Grand Egyptian Museum
Twelve days by sleeper train and road: Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, then three nights by the sea at Hurghada. Hotels only.
From, per person$1,6956 or more travellers · 3-star hotels

The route runs south by train and north by road, and ends on the Red Sea. You ride the sleeper to Aswan, drive to Luxor through Kom Ombo and Edfu, then cross the desert to Hurghada. The last leg is a short flight to Cairo.
Hurghada is a drive of 4 to 5 hours from Luxor, which we do only in daylight. The three nights there make it a rest after a week of sightseeing.
The plan suits travellers who want the sites and then several beach days, at a steady pace and with hotels throughout. It does not suit anyone who wants a cruise, or anyone who wants diving courses; these are optional and not included.

A drive of 4 to 5 hours, in daylight. The UK government's travel advice says not to drive outside main cities and resorts at night, so we leave early. Hurghada is 455 km from Cairo by road, which is why we return by air.
It is a short domestic flight.
Not here. Our 8-day train and Nile cruise plan is a better base for that.
Diving is an optional tour, arranged locally and not included in this plan. The reefs near Hurghada are popular for it.
