Many week-long plans pass through Aswan in a night. This one stays two nights and uses them for day trips: Philae and the High Dam on one day, Abu Simbel by road on the next. The road to Abu Simbel is about 300 km each way, so that day needs an early start.
The sleeper train from Cairo takes you straight to Aswan overnight, and you arrive the next morning. After Aswan you travel north by car through Kom Ombo and Edfu, 220 km in all, and finish with two nights in Luxor. A short flight brings you back to Cairo.
It suits travellers who want Abu Simbel and a base without bag changes. It does not suit anyone who wants a cruise or more than one night in Cairo.

Arrival. The guide and driver meet you in the arrivals hall, and the private air-conditioned vehicle takes you to your hotel in Cairo for check-in.
Rest of the day. The evening is short because the pyramids come early tomorrow. Your guide goes through tomorrow's plan with you, including the evening sleeper to Aswan, so you know what to pack in a small bag for the night. Lunch and dinner are not included today, and the guide can suggest places near the hotel.
Morning. The Great Pyramid was built between about 2580 and 2560 BC, and you walk around it with your guide, who explains who built it and why. The private vehicle and driver stay with you, and the entrance fees for the sites on the plan are included.
Afternoon. Saqqara follows after lunch. Lunch is not included, so the guide helps you choose a place.
Evening. You check out of the hotel and the driver takes you and your luggage to the station. Your two-berth compartment is on the sleeper to Aswan, and dinner is served on board and is included. We confirm the departure time when we book.
Morning. The train arrives in Aswan in the morning, and breakfast on board is included. Your guide and driver meet you and the first trip is Philae, by boat to Agilkia Island. About 95 structures were moved there to save them from flooding, and the guide explains what you are looking at as you walk.
Afternoon. Then you drive to the High Dam, which is 111 m high. Lunch is not included, and the guide helps you choose a place. You check in to your Aswan hotel, where you stay two nights, so the luggage stays put tomorrow. Bottled water is in the vehicle for the day, and your guide stays with you at both sites.
Morning. The convoy to Abu Simbel leaves very early, and we confirm the time when we book. The road is about 300 km each way, and the private air-conditioned vehicle and driver take you the whole way. The Great Temple of Ramesses II has four seated colossi on its facade, and your guide explains the carvings and the setting. The entrance fee is included.
Afternoon. You return to Aswan by early afternoon. Lunch is not included, and the guide helps you choose a place. The rest of the day is free at the hotel. Bottled water is in the vehicle for the long road, and your guide travels with you the whole way.
Morning. You check out and take a morning felucca sail past Elephantine Island. Then you leave for Luxor in the private vehicle, with your luggage loaded by the driver.
Afternoon. The road to Luxor is about 220 km in all. The first stop is Kom Ombo, then Edfu, and your guide explains each temple before you go in. The entrance fees are included. Lunch is not included, so the guide helps you choose a place on the way.
Evening. Luxor is a little further on, and you arrive in the evening. You check in to your hotel, where you stay two nights. The driver handles the luggage at each stop, and bottled water is in the vehicle.
Morning. The Valley of the Kings opens the day, with Tutankhamun's tomb at KV62. The entrance to the valley is included, but the Tutankhamun ticket is separate and is not included, nor are the tombs of Seti I and Ramses VI. Your guide advises which open tombs are worth the walk. Hatshepsut's temple is next.
Afternoon. After lunch Karnak is the last visit, and its Hypostyle Hall has 134 columns. Lunch is not included, and the guide helps you choose a place. Your private vehicle and driver bring you back to the hotel afterwards. Bottled water is in the vehicle all day, and your guide stays with you at each site.
Morning. You check out and spend the morning at Luxor Temple, beside the Nile on the east bank. Your guide takes you through it, and the entrance fee is included.
Departure. The private vehicle takes you to the airport for the flight from Luxor to Cairo, about 1 hour, which is included. We choose the departure to suit your international flight and confirm it when we book. Lunch is not included. The programme ends in Cairo, and the transfer to your international flight is part of it.
