Cairo in two days
Giza, Saqqara and a second day at the Grand Egyptian Museum
Two sleeper trains and a 3-night Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor. No domestic flights, and two nights in Cairo at the start.
From, per person$1,1256 or more travellers · 3-star hotels

You go south on the rails and come north on the water. The sleeper takes you from Cairo to Aswan in one overnight stretch, and the ship brings you back up the river to Luxor over 3 nights. The second sleeper then returns you to Cairo.
The ship is a Standard category ship and sails on fixed weekly days. Sleeper departures follow the operator's timetable, so we confirm the trains and the ship together before we book anything.
The plan suits travellers who want to see how Egypt is joined by rail and river and are fine with two sleeper nights. It does not suit light sleepers, or anyone with a tight connection at the end, since the last train arrives in Cairo in the morning.

Morning. The morning goes to the Giza plateau and the Sphinx. Your private Egyptologist guide explains the monuments, and the entrance fees for the sites on the plan are included. The vehicle waits between stops.
Afternoon. After lunch you drive to Saqqara. Lunch is not included, so the guide helps you choose a place. The Step Pyramid is the oldest complete stone building complex known. You then walk through the pyramid of Unas, whose chambers carry the oldest Pyramid Texts. You return to the same Cairo hotel tonight. Bottled water is provided during the day.
Morning. You check out of the hotel and visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, about 2 km from the pyramids. It has the Tutankhamun galleries and an 11 m statue of Ramesses II, and your guide takes you through them. The entrance fee is included.
Afternoon. Lunch is not included, and the guide helps you choose a place. You then rest at the hotel before the driver takes you to the station.

Morning. You arrive in Aswan in the morning after the overnight run, and your guide and driver meet you. A boat crosses to Philae, which was moved to Agilkia Island between 1977 and 1980. Your guide explains the move and the temple. The boat and entrance fees are included.
Afternoon. The High Dam, 3,830 m long, is the other stop. Then the driver takes you and your luggage to the ship, where you stay for three nights on full board, with lunch and dinner on board. Your guide stays with you on the boat and at the dam, and bottled water is provided.
On the river. The ship covers the 50 km to Kom Ombo. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served on board, and your luggage stays in your cabin.
Kom Ombo. The temple has two parts, with Sobek shown among its reliefs. Your private guide leads the visit and explains the two halves, and the entrance fee is included. The ship stays your base for the night. The ship sails on fixed weekly days, so the stops follow the ship's schedule. Drinks and extras on board are paid on board and are not included. On the river. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are on board. In the evening the ship arrives in Luxor, where it stays tonight. Tomorrow is a long day, so your guide tells you tonight what to pack in your small bag for the sleeper. The ship sails on fixed weekly days, so the timing follows its schedule. Drinks and extras on board are paid on board and are not included. Bottled water is provided on the visits.
Morning. You vacate your cabin by 8:00, after breakfast on board. The driver takes your luggage with you, and the west bank comes first with the Valley of the Kings. Your guide explains the tombs that are open. The valley entrance is included, but the tombs of Tutankhamun, Seti I and Ramses VI need separate tickets and are not included.
