Giza pyramids
And the Sphinx
Three days in one city: Giza on day 1, the Egyptian Museum and Old and Islamic Cairo on day 2, Saqqara and Memphis on day 3.
From, per person$3256 or more travellers · 3-star hotels

Every day of this break has one theme. Day 1 is the pyramids. Day 2 is the old city, from the museum on Tahrir Square to the mosques and churches. Day 3 is the pyramid fields south of Cairo.
Two nights in one hotel mean you do not pack. The drives are short: Giza is about 13 km from the centre, Saqqara about 30 km south, Memphis about 20 km south.
It suits travellers who want depth in Cairo rather than a second city. It does not include the Grand Egyptian Museum or any flights.

Arrival. Your guide meets you at the airport, and the private air-conditioned vehicle takes you to Giza, about 13 km from the centre of Cairo. Sightseeing starts straight after landing, and the hotel check-in is left for the evening.
Giza. Your Egyptologist guide shows you the three pyramids and the Sphinx, and explains where the temples and causeways stood. The Great Pyramid dates to c. 2580 to 2560 BC. Entrance fees for the Giza sites and bottled water are included.
Evening. You drive to your hotel in Cairo and check in for the first of two nights in the same hotel. Dinner is not included, so the guide helps you choose where to eat.
Morning. After breakfast at the hotel, the vehicle takes you to the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square, open since 1902. It holds over 170,000 items, and your guide leads you through the ground-floor statues and reliefs. The Tutankhamun gold mask is no longer there, because it was moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which this break does not visit.
Afternoon. Lunch is not included, and the guide helps you choose a place. Then you go to Coptic Cairo, which is compact, to see the Hanging Church and the church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, one of the oldest in Cairo. The Mosque of Ibn Tulun is the last stop, and the guide keeps Islamic Cairo to this mosque if you are tired. Entrance fees for all the sites are included.
Evening. The vehicle returns you to the same hotel in Cairo, so there is no repacking. Dinner is your choice.
Morning. After breakfast you check out and your luggage goes into the vehicle. Saqqara is about 30 km south of Cairo. Your guide takes you to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, designed by Imhotep, and to the pyramid of Unas, the first to carry Pyramid Texts.
Memphis. Memphis, about 20 km south of Cairo, is an open-air museum. The Ramesses II colossus lies on its back there and is about 10 m long, so you can see it in full. Entrance fees for both sites are included.
Departure. The private vehicle then drives you to the airport at the time your flight needs. Lunch is not included, and the guide can help you pick a place on the way if there is time.

Travel tips
October to April is the comfortable season. The Christmas and New Year weeks (18 December to 5 January) sell out first.
Many passports get an e-Visa online or a visa on arrival in Cairo. Check yours before you fly.
Light layers, a hat, sunscreen and closed shoes. Cover shoulders and knees for mosques and churches.
Cards work in hotels; carry small notes for tips. Tipping is expected but not included.

The museum on Tahrir Square covers the same civilisation in a different building. For the Tutankhamun collection, choose our 2-day break instead.
It is short and outdoors. The fallen colossus of Ramesses II is about 10 m long, which is easier to take in than a glass case.
A moderate amount. Coptic Cairo is compact. The guide keeps the Islamic Cairo part to the Ibn Tulun Mosque if you tire.
