Is there a nonstop flight from Canada to Egypt?

Probably, from Toronto. Wikipedia’s Cairo International Airport page lists EgyptAir as the airline serving Toronto Pearson, and it does not list Montreal or any other Canadian city. It does not state whether the service is nonstop, so confirm that on the EgyptAir booking page, along with the days it runs, which change by season.

We give no flight time, because we could not open an airline timetable. Route-planning averages are not timetables, so take the duration and the arrival hour from the airline for your dates.

What if you fly from Montreal, Vancouver or elsewhere?

Travellers outside Toronto usually connect, either in Toronto itself or at a European hub. The Wikipedia page for Cairo airport lists the European and Gulf airlines that serve Cairo, so a one-stop ticket on one booking is the normal route. Check these points before you buy:

  • Is the whole trip on one ticket? If the first flight runs late, the airline then rebooks you, and with separate tickets it does not.
  • How long is the wait between flights? Passport control and a change of terminal take longer than the schedule suggests.
  • What time do you land in Cairo? Check that against your hotel’s check-in and your first booked activity.

Ask the airline you pick how it treats a missed connection. We found no neutral source that says, so we do not describe any airline’s rules.

How should you plan the first day after landing?

The flight east crosses six or seven time zones, so a day-one plan needs slack. If you land in the morning, a light afternoon of walking, a meal and an early night usually work better than a full day with a timed ticket. The Grand Egyptian Museum sells tickets for a chosen date and time slot, so book it for the second or third day, not the first.

The CDC advises arriving at least two days before anything important. For a private tour, that means telling your planner the real landing time and whether you slept on the plane. A late arrival is easier to absorb when the vehicle and guide serve only your party.

What is the time difference between Canada and Egypt?

Cairo is seven hours ahead of Toronto for most of the year. Egypt’s clocks sit at UTC+2, with summer time at UTC+3 from the last Friday in April until the last Thursday in October. Toronto is on Eastern Time: UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 from the second Sunday of March to the first Sunday of November.

Period Toronto Cairo Cairo is ahead by
Second Sunday of March to last Friday of April UTC-4 UTC+2 6 hours
Last Friday of April to last Thursday of October UTC-4 UTC+3 7 hours
Last Thursday of October to first Sunday of November UTC-4 UTC+2 6 hours
First Sunday of November to second Sunday of March UTC-5 UTC+2 7 hours

The figures come from our own arithmetic on the published rules in Wikipedia’s articles on Time in Egypt and the Eastern Time Zone. For other Canadian provinces, add the extra hours your zone sits behind Eastern Time, and check a world clock for your dates.

Do Canadians need a visa for Egypt?

Yes. The Government of Canada lists tourist, business and student visas as required. It says Canadians can get an electronic visa before travel or a 30-day tourist visa on arrival, paid in cash in US dollars only. The official e-visa portal’s FAQ lists Canada among eligible countries, with tourist fees of $30 for one entry and $65 for several.

One number does not match. The Canada page gives a cost of $60 to $100 US per person, depending on your plans, while the UK government and the portal quote $30 for a single entry. We cannot reconcile the figures from the pages we opened, so read the portal fee on the day you apply and carry spare US dollars if you plan to pay at the airport.

E-visa Online, before you fly Card Portal FAQ, Government of Canada

Has the visa rule for Canadians changed?

It has, and old articles still circulate. Egyptian Streets reports that in October 2023 Egypt stopped offering the online and on-arrival visa to Canadians, who then had to mail an application to an Egyptian embassy. An Egypt Today report carried on a Cairo government page confirms the 1 October 2023 date. On 14 October 2024 the Foreign Ministry announced that the pre-entry requirement would be dropped from 1 December 2024, with the visa on arrival back and the e-visa reactivated.

The current Government of Canada page and the portal list the e-visa and arrival visa, so the 2023 rule no longer applies. If a website still tells you to post your passport to Ottawa, check its date.

What are the passport rules, and what is the exit stamp?

The Government of Canada asks for a passport valid for 6 months after the date you expect to leave Egypt, and adds that your carrier may apply stricter rules. The e-visa portal states the same six months but counts from arrival. Where two sources differ, follow the longer one, so count from the end of your trip.

Keep the entry stamp safe. Canada says you must show proof of an entry stamp in your passport when you leave, and that without it you cannot get an exit stamp and will be denied exit. If you replace a passport while in Egypt, the Egyptian Immigration Authority must transfer the stamp to the new one. A child born in Egypt to a Canadian parent needs a data stamp from immigration before leaving, issued against the birth certificate and the Canadian passport.

What does the Government of Canada advise?

The page, last updated on 26 May 2026, tells Canadians to exercise a high degree of caution in Egypt as a whole. It advises avoiding all travel to North Sinai, to the area within 50 km of the Libyan border, and to the Western Desert west of the road linking Giza, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel, including Dakhla, with some routes excluded. It advises avoiding non-essential travel to northern South Sinai, with Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba excluded.

A permit from the Ministry of the Interior is required to enter the Western Desert, according to the same page. It also calls road conditions often poor, tells travellers to avoid microbuses and suggests booking vehicles and drivers through reputable agencies. Read the live page again before you fly, since an update can change the wording.

Which laws and customs catch visitors out?

Several are specific to Egypt. The Government of Canada says photography of bridges, the Suez Canal, government and military sites and police is prohibited. Drones are strictly prohibited, and expensive electronics can be confiscated without prior approval. Exporting antiquities or any item older than 100 years needs official permission.

The same page asks visitors to dress conservatively and to be discreet about eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours. Canadian-Egyptian dual citizens may face military service obligations and limited consular help. Social posts critical of the government or security forces may be illegal, which is a reason to keep opinions off public feeds while you are there.

What health preparation do you need?

Book a travel-health visit well ahead. The Government of Canada recommends hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccines, up-to-date routine and flu shots, and one adult polio booster. It lists rabies as present, so avoid animals and seek care promptly after a bite or scratch, and it names travellers’ diarrhoea, typhoid, dengue and schistosomiasis among the risks. TravelHealthPro, the UK service, adds that the World Health Organization declared Egypt malaria-free in 2024.

Yellow fever vaccination is needed only if you arrive from, or pass through an airport in, a country with the disease. Check your connecting airports. Canada also notes that medical facilities are below Canadian standards.

Where is the Canadian embassy?

The Embassy of Canada is in Nile City Towers, South Tower, 18th floor, 2005 (A) Corniche El Nile, Cairo, with the consular phone listed as +20 2 2461-2200 and the email cairo.consular@international.gc.ca. After hours, the page directs Canadians to the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa. Put both in your phone before you leave. Experience Egypt gives 126 for the tourist police and 123 for an ambulance.

How do you handle jet lag flying east?

You cross seven time zones eastward, which the US CDC treats as a reason to plan. Jet lag usually matters when you cross more than three zones. For eastward flights the CDC suggests shifting bedtime an hour or two earlier in the days before departure, matching your destination’s sleep schedule on arrival, spending daytime in bright light and keeping naps to 15 or 20 minutes.

The CDC also suggests landing at least two days ahead of anything important. If day one holds a timed ticket, that argues for arriving a day early or keeping the first afternoon free.

How is a private tour arranged from Canada?

The planner starts from facts you supply. The list below is general, not a description of how a particular company works.

  1. Your flight numbers and arrival time. A direct flight from Toronto and a connection through Europe land at different hours.
  2. Everyone’s name exactly as printed in the passport, plus passport expiry dates counted against your last day in Egypt.
  3. Your visa route, so the arrival day matches it: e-visa on paper, or US dollars in your wallet.
  4. The regions you want and how much walking each person can manage.
  5. Any Western Desert plan, since a permit is needed there.

Our trip planner collects these details. If a river trip is part of your idea, the Nile cruises page shows the ships, and the 8 days Cairo, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel package is one example of a route. We state no prices here.

Which mistakes cost Canadians time?

  • Following a 2023 article that says to post your passport to an embassy.
  • Counting passport validity from arrival when the Canadian page counts from departure.
  • Losing the entry stamp, or not asking for the stamp to be moved to a replacement passport.
  • Booking two separate tickets on a short connection in Europe.
  • Reading the visa-on-arrival figure from a forum instead of the portal.

Which points stayed unconfirmed?

We could not open an airline schedule page, so we give no flight times. The fee on the Canadian advice page differs from the portal, and we say so rather than choose one. Read the portal, the Government of Canada page and your airline close to your dates. See also our visa guide for how the fees compare across governments.

Does Air Canada fly to Cairo?

Wikipedia's Cairo airport page does not list Air Canada. The only Canadian city it lists is Toronto, served by EgyptAir. Check Air Canada's own site for a connecting itinerary.

How long is the flight from Toronto to Cairo?

We give no figure, because we could not open an airline timetable. Ask EgyptAir or your airline for the total on your dates, and add the connection time if you stop.

Do I need a visa in advance as a Canadian?

Not necessarily. The Government of Canada says you can apply for an e-visa or buy a 30-day visa on arrival in cash, in US dollars.
